John Cage - Boris Berman ‎– Sonatas And Interludes For Prepared Piano

A great recording with superbly sounding reverb of Cage's 1946-1948 compositions for prepared piano. It's that good that I put my two-month old baby child to sleep to it- does it need any higher recommendation? Recorded by Berman in 1998, released by Naxos on cd in 1999.

  1. Greetings, just found your blog inadvertently while on my phone, so I quickly got on my mac to visit & bookmark ;) Thx for this share - I bought this Naxos disc when it came out (and indeed shared it on my own blog a couple years back) but after a hdd failure, I've yet to dig out my own physical copy again. Berman's interpretations are among my favorite. -Do you happen to have any of Ben Frost's albums? Only one I didn't "lose" is the brilliant "By The Throat", one of my favs.

    Regards,

    Tz

  2. Hey, I'm not really a fan of Ben Frost, I find his stuff kind of derivative. In fact, when played my town some years ago most of my experimental music acquaintances went crazy and attended, but I didn't even go...

  3. Grrrrrrr I just lost a whole 2 paragraph reply. That's what I get for writing too much and being too lazy to log in via google. Anyhow fair enough about Ben Frost; I still insist on enjoying his music however ;) -Do you like Keith Fullerton Whitman? And btw just curious if Frost is "2nd rate" to your ears, who would be your top honorable mentions?

    Cheers,

    Tz
