Inseminoid - Untitled cdr

At that point in 2011 Inseminoid must have been on a winning-streak. No harsh noise wall here either, this is scary as fuck ambient drone wall with field recordings, toxic zombie synths, and heavy guitar stasis, quite similar to Culver, but even deeper and more troubling. Get this! 2011 cdr on Turgid Animal.

Inseminoid ‎– UK Tour 2011 cdr

Awesome recording! This is not as harsh noise wall, it's two noisy dissonant scary guitar epics with a great drone touch. Some Inseminoid material could be hit-or-miss, but this is definitely one of the best! 2011 self-released 3" cdr.

Inseminoid - Old Blue Lass cdr

Disappointingly sexist cover, but no-nonsense harsh noise wall. The second track at least is live, ending with "Some Kind of Miracle" by girl group Girls Aloud and members of the audience going crazy. 2011 cdr on Finite Change (no, not the awesome Infinite Exchange label).

Star Turbine, Inseminoid, Fordell Research Unit, Xazzaz ‎– Nundungeon cdr

On this 4-way split that was made for a gig in Edinburgh, we have Star Turbine (Sindre Bjerga and Claus Poulsen) making low-end dictaphone drone that is amazingly effective in its decaying tape sounds, Inseminoid offering hypnotic harsh noise/drone, Fordell Research Unit creating spooky sci-fi UFO drone, and Xazzaz destroying amps with his gruesome harsh guitar noise. 2014 cdr on Gold Soundz.

Inseminoid - Killer Crabs cdr

Fortunately, the tasteless exploitation imagery is now on the back cover, phew. One of the darkest and most subtle Inseminoid releases, with static heavy guitar drone, deep undeground sounds that evoke an eerie atmosphere and some liberating harsh noise at the end. Nice. 2010 cdr on Beartown Records.

Inseminoid ‎– Northern Foot Fetish cdr

Not too fond of the cover here, as it's kinda too pornographic. Another slab of relentless epic drone/harsh noise wall combination running for 55 minutes, followed by mystical acoustic guitars and subterranean ritual drone. 2014 cdr on Turgid Animal.

Inseminoid - Greek Hammond cdr

Drone wall extravaganza continues. For some reason, my cd copy has a truncated 3rd track at 35 seconds, whereas the back cover says it's 12 minutes. If anyone has the whole of it, please get in touch. 2008 cdr on Turgid Animal.

Inseminoid ‎– Live Tumult In Newcastle tape

Swarms of heavy distortion caught live on tape. 2008 tape on Turgid Animal.

Ecoute La Merde / Inseminoid split tape

Three tracks of lo-fi, murky, toxic horror noise that would fit perfectly as a soundscape for Dawn of The Dead by Inseminoid, one dictaphone scuzzy shit of French music samples and TV talks juxtaposed with noise by Ecoute La Merde. 2009 tape on Undeground Pollution Productions.

Kritická Situace ‎– Kritická Situace

Awesome late-80s-to-mid-90s hardcore punk from the Czech Republic, which I learned while reading the old legendary issues of Inside Front zine run by Brian Catharsis/Crimethinc. They sing in their mother tongue, and they have a mid-to-moderately-fast paced style that includes quite a lot of metal influences and an anthemic feel. This was released in 1993 by Day After Records, but I have ripped it from my tape copy that was done by Slovakian label Hirax Records.

Inseminoid ‎– Beauties Of Beltane CDR

Harsh noise wall it is, but near the end there's this vague, fleeting mournful melody that gives it a strange sense of beauty. 2009 cdr on Small Doses.

Throbbing Gristle - Heathen Earth remastered & reissued

This is the Throbbing Gristle album that really lives up to their musical reputation of being the bleakest group of their time. I'd be brave enough to say that up till that point every album of theirs, including DOA had some lighter moments that took something away from the industrial ominousness they promised and strove for. But in this live recording in front of their friends, everything is appropriately horrid, with the highlights being a gruesome version of "Six Six Sixties" from 20 Jazz Funk Greats and an amazing instrumental rendition of "Something Came Over Me." The second cd of the reissue features various live recordings of songs that have already appeared in the TG24. This is the 2018 Mute remastered re-release of the original 1980 album.

Disc 1
Disc 2 (Bonus)

Inseminoid - Nunnery CDR

The same noise/drone/harsh noise wall stuff done by Stokoe and Proctor but with an extra horror twist this time, with added wah guitar ramblings on "Lonely Cavern" and some Asian cymbal action on some tracks. 2008 cdr on Turgid Animal.

St James Infirmary - Affidavits Of Unease

Isn't the guy on the cover identical to Lenin? St. James Infirmary returns with a fifty-minute epic and elevating journey of kosmische-inspired drone. 29-minute first track "The Great Anger Approaches" builds on an anthemic medieval accordion melody, with an unforgiving high-pitched guitar loop tuning perfectly with the accordion, and bringing to mind the finest moments of Ashtray Navigations, while also having perhaps a sense of Skullflower's latter-day obsession with sustained guitar noise. Track two, "Default Jazz Afternoon," is a completely different story. Based on a midi saxophone melody, and an additional synth theme, this is a weird Musick To Play In the Dark-era-Coil-meets-arcade-games-midi-music. I picture this either as a Sega Master System game theme, or background hypnagogic music for carpet commercials on a very early-morning schedule, that could easily be sampled by James Ferraro, were he to ever return to his earlier hypnagogic masterpieces. Lovin' this, and so should you, so go to Wormhole World's bandcamp and support!

Inseminoid ‎– Women Of Wicca tape

A mammoth release of two 49-minute tracks, this shows a more ambient side of Inseminoid. Great strangely calming electronics hover a deep furnace drone and they wouldn't be out of place even in Ulver's Lyckantropen Themes, however weird that might sound. 2009 tape on The Trilogy Tapes.

Inseminoid ‎– Sixty Nines 2Xcdr

One of the most structured Inseminoid releases, containing acoustic guitars, cinematic atmospheres, and a narrative approach to harsh drone. This is as close as it can get to Culver quality, albeit with a noisier edge. 2012 double cdr on Turgid Animal.

Inseminoid ‎– Pagan Anorexia

Starts off with a decayed piano loop recorded on tape that makes you think it's a Basinski record, only to proceed to ice breaking ship engine drone noise; second track begins in a very Culverian fashion: acoustic guitar loop degenerating into fuzzed-out drone, albeit with the guitar playing throughout. One of the most enjoyable Inseminoid releases. 2008 tape on 905 Tapes.

Chow Mwng - Beca cd

Chow Mwng, the alias of Ash Cooke, returns with a brilliant piece of experimental ingenuity; inspired by a Welsh artist group called Beca (who I know nothing about), he has created 5 tracks of Gwrth - gitâr (anti-guitar): this is improvised anti-music played on a stringless and prepared acoustic guitar and with accompanying senseless growls. This is a fine piece of musique concrète that deserves to be heard and disseminated, as it pushes the boundaries of what free music is and develops new ways of doing things with instruments. Great job done. You can listen to it and offer some cash to the Wormhole World bandcamp, which does an excellent job at making forward-thinking musicians heard.

Inseminoid - Born Bronze / Orphan Blues tape

Somewhat a combination between Culver and Skullflower: dense layers of fuzz drone but with an underlying sense of riffs. 2008 tape on Turgid Animal.

Inseminoid - A Mask For Jennifer cdr

Inseminoid is yet another project of Lee Stokoe of Culver, Witchblood, and Matching Head tapes, and yet another collaboration with George Proctor of Turgid Animal & Legion Blotan Records and Mutant Ape, with a more pronounced affinity from exploitation and porn that in their "daily" projects (which ain't a good thing imo). The sound is very close both to Culver and George Proctor's Karst, albeit somewhat more abstract, and a little bit closer to harsh noise and HNW. Here we get a very lo-fi wallish drone that qualifies very gloomy rainy days after a night of 3 hours of sleep. 2008 cdr on At War With False Noise.

Don Cherry - Dona Nostra cd

An incredible swan song by legendary trumpeter Don Cherry, who died a few years after releasing this album. Top-notch nightly jazz with touches of world music, played by a superb sextet featuring Bobo Stenson on the piano and Anders Jormin on bass. 1994 cd on ECM.

Joanna Brouk ‎– Hearing Music 2Xcd

Enchanting and meditating new age/drone/minimal classical by this overlooked Bay Area composer who had studied under Terry Riley and whose output included five tapes released in the 1980s after which she went silent. Fortunately, for those of us who are not willing to spend high amounts for those tapes on Discogs, Numero made this 2 X CD collecting some of her material (unfortunately not including all of her recording output) in 2016; however she sadly passed away one year later.

Michael Chocholak & Ooy - The Hadron Suite cdr

Collaborative dark ambient by American Michael Chocholak and Japanese Ooy, who also plays in Kluster. The idea here was that both musicians would provide recorded material to the other one, who would be tasked with composing tracks on said sounds. There's a very spacey sound to this and reminds me of some of the most structured material by Bjerga/Iversen, but some of the sounds could be easily part of Tarkovsky's Solaris or Stalker. 2010 cdr on Triple Bath.
