EPIC psychedelic bubblegum drone by legendary New Zealand musician, with a track dedicated to Florian Fricke, and a sound that wouldn't be out of place in the soundtrack of Blade Runner.

Judith Hamann - Shaking Studies (Blank Forms Editions)

Beautiful cello/electronics drone/classical experimentations, not unlike Morton Feldman.

Lush Worker - Immunosuppression / Preacher / Cygnus / Consort (Cruel Nature Records)

Bong's Mike Vest offers four albums-worth of material sounding like Azathoth the blind idiot god jamming in the center of the universe with Electric Wizard and Hawkwind.

Martina Bertoni - Music For Empty Flats (Karlrecords)

It's Bandcamp cello Friday. Another cellist experimenting with the possibilities of her instrument, this is great ambient based on processed recordings of cello similar to Giulio Aldinucci and Lawrence English.

Sage Alyte - Paume De Pierre (Vlek)

Belgian fee folk/psych anthems in the vein of...well....the well-expected Belgian free folk quality.

Litte Skull - Lower Hope Reach (Horn Of Plenty)

If you read this blog regularly, you know what to expect from Little Skull. Enough said.

Ash Cooke & Phil Jenkins - A Fly Is In My Ear (Liquid Library)

Ash Cooke's (Chow Mwng) usual abrasive prepared acoustic guitar instrument-bending improvisations are here accompanied by drums adding a more free jazz quality.

Aidan Baker & Gareth Davis ‎– Invisible Cities LP

I sometimes wonder how I have never posted any music by Aidan Baker, as I have uploaded some of his stuff to share here but it somehow never worked out. So, in anticipation of the second installation of Invisible Cities (which I pre-ordered the vinyl of and I am eagerly waiting-the full album is online now and sounds sublime!) here's the first one. It's a collaboration with bass clarinetist Gareth Davis, who is a member of the drone band A-Sun Amissa (their latest album For Burdened And Bright Light is excellent), and it really is one of the highlights of Baker's work, which in my opinion is sometimes hit-or-miss, both with his namesake recordings, and as Nadja (I still think that the Pyramids/Nadja album is his best ever). The music is ECM-quality thanks to the clarinet sounds of Davis, but Baker's drones, ambient soundscapes and field recordings are deeply enveloping and very evocative. It's really one of those albums to listen to on a coach travelling long distances at night or while visiting ancient sites. Highly recommended. 2018 LP on Karlrecords.

Giulio Aldinucci - Disappearing In A Mirror

Fuuuuucccckkkk, this is an amazing album that I unfortunately didn't listen before the end of 2018, otherwise I might have said this was last year's best album. Italian sound artist Giulio Aldinucci has crafted an amazing world of heavy ambient soundscapes that combine the best of William Basinski's decaying loops and early Tim Hecker's (pre-Virgins) shattering tectonic ambient drones, albeit with a personal voice that creates superb climactic atmospheres (the unending choirs on "Jammed Symbols") and hypnotic subterranean rumbles ("Notturno Toscano"). Essential listening. 2018 LP on Karl Records.
